Production Line Manager – Troup, TX Facility

Reports To:  Operations Manager

Altman Plants is a dynamic family-owned wholesale nursery that produces and distributes a wide range of plants for major retailers around the country from facilities in California, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, and Texas.  We are looking for a Production Manager for our Troup, TX location.  The Production Manager is responsible to manages all aspects of facility planting, potting and canning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the production plan has been written to meet the sales plan
  • Work with the growing staff to ensure that proper timings are in the plan
  • Work with Planning team to ensure plan is daily and weekly schedule
  • Develop a daily and weekly potting schedule
  • Maintain actual units produced vs. plan on a daily basis
  • Manage labor hours to plan for the entire potting and laydown teams
  • Measure and monitor potted flats per man hour
  • Ensure the potting execution and tracking of all ads and contracts
  • Ensure that all equipment is running at optimal levels
  • Test soil mix on a daily basis for proper balance
  • Ensure optimal quality of planted production to deliver to the growing staff
  • Manage the organization and storage of all raw materials
  • Ensure all materials are moved to and from the potting area as needed
  • Ensure proper receiving of all inputs and materials
  • Seek credits or replacements for inferior quality of inputs and material
  • Ensure usage of recycled materials whenever possible
  • Measure actual usage to plan for all raw materials
  • Responsible for physical inventory of Raw materials
  • Recommend budgeted expense levels to the General Manager
  • Manage capital projects in the potting area
  • Assist in preparation of long range planning schedules
  • Ensure the safety of all employees within supervisory group.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Must carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; holding regular meetings and complying with safety regulations; housekeeping; measuring and monitoring efficiencies; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Experience in Horticulture or Plant Nursery management
  • Previous experience in line production / manufacturing
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel
  • Attention to detail and professionalism
  • Ability to work with diverse work force of all ages, social and ethnic backgrounds
  • Effective verbal and written communications
  • Strong people and organizational skills
  • Bilingual English / Spanish preferred

 

Compensation:

  • Salary commensurate with skills and experience, range 55K – 65K / year
