Direct Sales Manager

Altman Plants, Inc. (altmanplants.com) is a family owned wholesale nursery with operations in California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, and Texas. We’re looking for a District Sales Manager to help build and lead our first sales/merchandising team in the New Jersey / Pennsylvania / New York area. Our entire sales team has the same goal of effectively replenishing and merchandising our top quality plants at big box store locations to drive sales. You’ll be part of a team in your territory that includes several merchandisers and support from our drivers and distribution team.
The District Sales Manager position involves supervision of our merchandising team, working closely with store and district operators from the Home Depot, as well as close communication with our management / key accounts teams here at Altman Plants.
We’re looking for a self-motivated leader with a positive attitude and great communication skills.

Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Helping to recruit, hire, and train sales merchandisers
  • Ensure that Altman Plants products are replenished and merchandised to company standards
  • Work with company management to review sales reports in detail and apply the data to our efforts to drive sales and affect sell through
  • Build team cohesion and positively influence individual behavior
  • Work on special projects (resets, store walk preparation, display builds, initial program sets, coordinate meetings, distribute sales reports, etc.)
  • Attend store walks and special events
  • Provide oversight (along with our management team) to ensure that all best practices are being utilized consistently throughout the district
  • Cover service needs in any given store when a Sales Rep or Merchandiser is not present for any reason (vacation, injury, illness, day off, special project, etc.)
  • Provide constructive feedback to our sales team and company management
  • Develop effective communication and relationships with the Home Depot store and district operators throughout the assigned area

Responsibilities:

  • 21 years old with valid truck driving license.
  • Minimum 2 years driving experience.
  • Strong customer service and ability to communicate verbally with customers.
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (Traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
  • Strong people and organizational skills.
  • Able to lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Dependability and punctuality are mandatory.

Requirements:

Live in an area near central New Jersey. Must be willing to travel from store to store and have a dependable vehicle, valid driver license, and insurance. Industry experience working with live goods or experience working with the Home Depot or Lowe’s. Salary based on experience and skill level.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage 5-6 sales merchandisers in various locations throughout the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York area.

Education/Experience:

Merchandising experience. Management experience. Computer experience and proficiency with basic spreadsheets such as MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word). High school diploma.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, basic job instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interact effectively with customers and employees of our organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide basic units of measure.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Licenses

Must possess a valid State Driver’s License and have an acceptable DMV driving record. Must have and maintain current automobile insurance.

Other Skills and Abilities

Dependability and punctuality are mandatory. Must be able to work a varied schedule which includes weekends and some holidays. Must have professional demeanor and appearance. Must observe and comply with all company policies and safety practices.
